We are very grateful for the gener- ous support from our commu- nity and sincerely hope you will continue with this tradition. Donkey basketball game set for April 27 in Tyler Four basketball teams will "ride" onto the court but only one will leave as champion. The Tyler Area Community Foundation will be hosting a donkey basketball tournament on Saturday, April 27 at the RTR High School gym in Tyler. The event is a fundraiser for the foundation that has worked with the Tyler swimming pool, Tyler Golf Clubhouse and com- munity sign, among other proj- ects over the last few years. The tournament will include four as-yet-named teams from around the area competing in a basketball game-- while riding donkeys. Tickets for the family-friendly event will be available starting Friday at Thomsen Hardware, Thrifty White and the Tyler Trib- ute office. The Tyler Area Community Foundation has partnered with fundraising groups for projects to give people an opportunity to make a tax-deductible donation. More information about the event will be available in the next few weeks. Amundson and Serie to retire from county By Dan Kuss Ibnews@itctel.com The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners approved accepting the resignations of County Veterans Services Of- ficer Gary Serie, who will retire on May 1, and County Engineer Lee Amundson, who will retire on May 31. The board approved advertis- ing for a half-time VSO at 15 to 20 hours per week and will find office space in the courthouse to provide needed service for county veterans. The position requires veteran status and the board prefers hir- ing a computer-literate candidate who resides in Lincoln County, hopefully in time to attend train- ing in Colorado in May. The board discussed various options and will research for replacements in both positions, which will be reviewed further at the next meeting. The board opened bids for a new truck for the engineer- ing department. The board ap- proved going with Olson and ]ohnson Sanitation Products, an associate of North Central In- ternational, at $193,783 with a trade-in. It takes six months to get the trucks, which have a one-year warranty on the chassis and body, and the new engines are compliant to the latest emissions control specifications. There was an $11,000 differ- ence to the next bid. There is a mutual aid agree- ment with Pipestone County for summer help. Amundson said there are con- tinually more on-line applica- tions and processes with the state, with the DNR being the latest. Amundson said it is also time to sign the Sheriff and Engineer- ing Maintenance agreement with MnDOT which is updated every five years.
