Council approves permit for Nativity By Robert Wolfington The Tyler City Council ap- proved a permit that will bring a Nativity scene back to the band- shell in downtown Tyler. Last November the city re- ceived a complaint about dis- playing a Nativity scene in a city park. The scene was removed and later installed on the campus of Danebod. The council recently approved a motion to create a permit pro- cess that would allow citizens and organizations within Tyler to lease the bandshell for uses such as displays and perfor- mances. During the Nov. 4 Tyler City Council meeting, the council was presented a permit application from The Rock Christian Youth Center in downtown Tyler to display a Nativity scene at the bandshell. The council approved the per- mit and requested a copy of the permit be placed at the band- shell. The permit will run from Nov. 29 through Dec. 29. The council gave Tyler Police Chief John Spindler approval to seek information about the pur- chase of a new police vehicle. Spindler said the city is slight- ly behind its regular schedule for replacing vehicles. The council directed Spindler to obtain information from a lo- cal dealer and will look at that along with the state bid for po- lice vehicles. The information is expected to be presented at the next council meeting in December. Election results in next week Results from the RTR School Board election will be in the Nov. 13 Tyler Tribute.
