Wednesday, November 20, 2013 Local Tyler Tribute - Page 5 Marcia Kells gave Kiwanis program on nursing care The Tyler Kiwanis Club met Wednesday, Nov. 13 at noon at the Timber Tavern and enjoyed a ham sand- wich and chili. Dr. Snow welcomed ev- eryone and started with a trivia question. After the meal, the meet- ing opened with the Pledge to the American Flag, the last verse of'America" and a prayer led by Pastor Cy Solberg. Betty Jo Solberg led the singing of "Eternal Father Strong To Save." Happy Bucks were put in by Doc Klein, who is happy to be back; Darrel, because he and Bey are going to watch their grandson play football on Saturday in Sioux Falls; Cindy Dirkx, who is thankful for fam- Tyler Kiwanis Club News By Betty Jo Solberg ily and friends since she lost her job; Marlys Maser, who is thankful for her program. Marlys Maser asked Marcia Kells to speak to Kiwanis today. Marcia is a nurse practitioner at the Tyler Healthcare Clinic and Hospital. She was born and raised in Lac qui Parle County where she lives with her husband and sons. Marcia has done much nursing and caring in her years. She worked in public health and home care in a five-county agen- cy and also worked as Di- rector of Nurses at John- son Memorial Hospital for 17 years. Marcia also re- ceived a Busch Leadership Scholarship and took her training at SDSU. She also worked in Granite Falls for 15 years. Marcia present- ed a wonderful program with questions asked, etc. She believes in listening to the patient and they will tell you what is wrong with them and referred to the book "Body, Mind, and Soul." The menu next week is pork roast dinner. Glen Pe- tersen has the program. The meeting adjourned at I p.m. Many events and games enjoyed at Sunrise Manor Friday morning we rem- inisced and did our daily exercises. Shirley Schnell set hair for us today. In the afternoon we enjoyed mu- sic by Bruce Dysthe. We visited during Social Time. Our Friday Night Movie was "Pay it Forward." To- day was Leon Jensen's birthday. Saturday morning we exercised and in the af- ternoon played Number Bingo and watched "Fun Time Polka" later in the af- ternoon. Sunday morning we ex- ercised and in the after- noon St. John's Lutheran led our afternoon service. We watched "Steel Mag- nolias" and had popcorn during our Sunday Night at the Movies. Monday morning we exercised and in the after- noon played Bingo. Joyce Thomsen helped with Bingo. We played Kings in the Corner and Golf Cards in the evening. Sunrise Manor News Tuesday morning we exercised and in the af- ternoon spent our Bingo winnings at the Country Store. We pampered the ladies with manicures then had Men Only mani- cures. We played Bingo in the evening. ]oyce Thom- sen helped with Bingo. Lana Alderson set hair for us today. Wednesday we had Catholic Communion and exercised. In the afternoon we played Noodle Ball. We read a few more chapters in Book Club. In the eve- ning we tried our luck in Horse Races. Thursday morning Pas- tor Julie from Winds of the Prairie Churches led our devotions and offered Communion. We bowled in the afternoon. Our win- ners this week were Caro- lyn Holck and Leon Thooff. We read the area newspa- pers and in the evening played Bingo. Maw Taylor helped with Bingo. Visitors who signed the guest book this week were: Spin Trautman visited Cle- one Willert, Lavar Moon, Rosie Drietz, Marian Kerr and Phyllis Johansen; Gaff Newell visited Ruth Hans- en; Diane Drietz and Marie Frensko visited Rosie Dri- etz; Sophia DeVos visited Martha Meulebroeck and several other residents. Smile-- Two friends were comparing letters from their kids in college. "When my son writes to me, his letters send me to the dictionary," admitted one parent. "You're lucky, said the other.
